Keith Thompson is a legeeeeeendddddd!
We don't even have any potatoes in the apartment. BUT STILL. POTATO. I feel like I've been transported into an Irish stew pot.
Sooo this is a journal saying that I won't be able to update any new art from the 21st of October to the 14th of November because I'll be away from Bangkok. We're going to a Chinese university for a bit because there's a maths conference or something, and before that we're having a holiday elsewhere. If I manage to get a good internet connection I'll probably be active-ish in terms of commenting because I've already been in that particular area of China before. :9 I'm betting we're going to run out of funds on our trip. Aha.
I kind of wish I had a decent digital camera (there's one in my laptop...kind of hard to take it around places though). There's some really cool urban architecture around here that I'd love to use as references for drawings. Like, dilapidated apartment buildings all squished together with mysterious stains, graffiti, with wire for clothes lines and pot plants that are no longer pot plants because they're so crazily overgrown. For some people they're probably a blight on the landscape and as a sign of poverty it's quite sad, but if it's only about aesthetics then I admire them. Places like that have a really tangible sort of atmosphere. I want to be able to recreate that eventually in drawings. Better start working on perspective again instead of all this 2d stuff I've been doing. xD I kind of wish I didn't have to sleep so there was more time I could use for art! There's so much to learn.
Nnnngh but that said I am so tired! My sleep cycle is so twisted...everytime I'm left to my own devices I turn nocturnal. Last week I was diurnal because I had to go out and meet people during the day, but recently I've turned nocturnal...and I need to change it because of the trip soooon, since I don't want to waste too much time sleeping...
Speaking of sleeping patterns...how awesome is the word crepuscular?! It's not as awesome as the word supercilious though. Seriously! I read At Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill a while ago (tragic love story between two teenage boys, set in the period leading up to/during the Easter Rising in Ireland, it's an excellent book) and it brought my attention to the word's roots because the paedo-priest got the origin wrong and so the boy was like "what an idiot" (and then I felt like an idiot because I didn't know). Buuut basically:
Super, as in above. Cilious, from cilium = eyelid. So supercilious = eyebrow. As in, the eyebrow to express haughtiness. The English language is so strange! Everytime I think of the word supercilious I just grin like the ninny I am, because it's so funny!
whoa i've kind of been jumping around a lot in this journal hmm okay i'm done i guess!
