Uhhh is there a category for like mythical creatures and stuff? Because if there is...I totally missed it.

The Kinnaree is a part of Buddhist/Hindu mythology. I had Thai picture books about them when I was little and they're probably one of my favourite Thai creatures. They're half human, half bird. ...And they're usually a lot more complex than my attempt at drawing them. xD Also they tend to have the legs of the bird...in this picture, I guess it looks more like a woman who is playing the part.

For this one I used three different Thai art books for references on patterns/thepose/thatgoddamntail/etc...buuut I still can't read Thai so I don't know what the actual names/authors are. ._. Sorry about that.

I'm really bad at making my lines consistent. I hope that practising Thai art, with all its patterns and delicate linework, will help me a bit with that.

ps. oh god her thigh is too long D:

I've always loved the intricate line work used in traditional Buddhist and Hindu artwork, and this is just beautiful. But I wouldn't worry about the length of the thighs; it just makes her look more like a bird. Nice!

Oh thank you! Yeah, I absolutely love how the focus in South/Southeast Asian artwork is on intricate patterns and linework. Hope I can get better at it!

Ah! When I saw it, I thought it was a Garudaa~. (sp)

Still pretty good though. :33!

The detail on this is just beautiful! The pose has an interesting mix of fluidity and rigidity that keeps me looking at it . . . she feels like she's going to burst forth at any moment and continue her dance. I love it!

There ought to be more mythological creatures on dA, darn it all.

Thank you! The detail in Thai artwork is what keeps drawing me into it. :D

Thank you! =O It's a lot of fun trying to get all the detail down.

I've been wanting to try my hand at doing lots of detail like that, but I don't have a tablet yet so it'll be difficult to make it look nice. XD I applaud anyone who can make nice details like that! *thumbs up*

Awww...yeah, I'm terrible at trying to get detail down on paper. I make too many mistakes and end up rubbing the paper into oblivion. T_T So I prefer using a tablet.
